On Tuesday the 7th of October key stakeholders in the CAPS process Had Their Say on Cycling. Despite the challenges presented by a public transport strike 120 delegates made their way to Perth to hear from speakers as well as engage in multiple workshops to debate the future of cycling in Scotland.
The day got underway with speakers Stewart Maxwell MSP, Minister for Communities and Sport and Erl B Wilkie MBE, Cycling Action Plan for Scotland Chairperson
The day continued with multiple, wide ranging workshops to help determine the future direction of CAPS the themes discussed were:
• Culture and the Individual
• Cycling and the Built Environment
• Methods to Promote Behaviour Change
During the lunch break the annual Cycling Scotland Award for Cycling Innovation was presented to this year’s winners:
• Recyce-a-bike of Fallin, Stirlingshire
Delegates also had the change to take in two Youth Presentations from:
• Kyle Thornton, Cycling at Bellahouston Academy
• Johnny Cook and Kazi Macadam on the Inverness Scene
Continuing on the workshops from the morning the delegates went on to spend the afternoon discussing
• Targeting/Segmentation
• Prioritisation
Following feedback on the workshops, voting on their outcomes and a panel discussion the day was brought to a close with a call to action by COSLAs Health and Well-being Spokesperson, Councillor Ronnie McCall
